Choosing resources can often leave a parent feeling overwhelmed and completely out of their depth. There is just so much to choose from and as parents we desire to choose wisely so that our money is invested in good resources that will be well used. A word of warning: there will be some resources you purchase that won't be a good fit and you may never end up using. That's ok. Part of the learning process in any endeavour is that you learn what works and what doesn't. What fits with your philosophy and what doesn't. What your children love and what they don't.
When choosing resources there are a few things you need to keep in mind: 1) Does this resource fit with your worldview and belief system? If it doesn't, does it matter? (It may be a high quality resource that will support thoughtful and lively discussion on differing perspectives). 2) Will this resource fit with your family lifestyle? Do you work best with pick-up-and-go resources? Do you have the time and energy to devote to preparation, presentation and hands on learning activities? Do you study topics together or individually? 3) Will this resource fit with your overall aims and philosophy of teaching and learning? 4) Does this resource match your budget?
