The dawn of a new year always brings with it thoughts of new beginnings, new possibilities, and new hopes. For me 2018 is no different. Except this year has started with a bang. Christmas got bigger, as I realised when it took me two days (instead of one) to dismantle Christmas and our Christmas storage has now grown by three boxes. As I look at what 2018 holds for us as a family, I think our life will reflect our Christmas ornaments. And that's not including the unknown surprises life always throws our way when we're not looking.
It's gonna be bigger with loads more stuff in it!
To begin with our eldest daughter and her husband have just moved to the Whitsunday region. The move has been a massive whirlwind of activity and we have already squeezed in our first drive to the area in a moving truck. That's a tale all on it's own! Having adult children living far away is something new we'll be getting used to - although on the upside we have a new holiday destination. Definitely looking forward to that part.
Our nest is a little emptier now and it may empty further as the year goes on. We shall see. Daughter No 2 has taken the first step towards her dreams and is now enrolled in a Bachelor of Music at the Con in Brisbane. Life now contains the balance of commuting, study, work, friends and a musician's life - including a music trip to China. A little bit of crazy is coming her way.
Daughter No 3 is embarking on her final year of homeschooling. It's tough being the last child left learning at home with her mother - just ask her! So we've put our heads together to form a plan and her last homeschooling year is going to look quite different from her sister's. She will be doing the Tertiary Preparation Pathway course at USC (part-time), History & Literature with me 'homeschool-style', working 2 days a week, plus youth group, music group, and personal interest projects she has going on. And just maybe, by the end of the year, she'll have her drivers license (but that's her father's department).
Did I mention this year is going to be bigger with loads more stuff in it?
Then there's me. In amongst this crazy, abundant life, I will be trying to find little pockets of quiet to read, reflect, and write. My personal 3R's. I do have a few personal goals I am currently nutting out, including some writing projects and home education projects I hope to complete this coming year.
As I wind up my own family's home education life I have been thinking about what I'd like to leave behind me and pondering what I'd like to pass on and have available to my own children's children. Is there something I can share and pass on, that I have learned from others who have gone before me? These are the questions I will contemplate in some of those quiet pockets of time. 2018 will be both a year of reflection and a year of looking to my future. A year in between seasons.
And of course, there is a whole year ahead to fill with delicious books. I'm currently pondering a wish list for myself. So many books, so little time!
Help me out......
